The Group's actions in favor of environmental protection fall within the framework of the Principles of the United Nations Global Compact, of which CIS has been a signatory since 2005.
In terms of the environment, CIS's objectives are clear:
- Consume and produce responsibly: 92% of the Group's purchases are made locally in order to reduce the Group's carbon footprint. In addition, the ingredients used to make our culinary recipes do not come from any endangered species. All of the Group's teams in our 230 operating sites are aware of the need for rational use of water and electricity resources.
- Reducing food waste: the Group is in the process of deploying connected scales in its kitchens to accurately measure food waste and provide teams with data to reduce it. In addition, CIS has implemented a waste recovery policy in some of its countries, particularly in Mauritania and Mozambique: 42 tonnes of composting have been used to enrich the soil since the implementation of this initiative.
- Limit non-food waste: around 6 tonnes of paper (i.e. around 92 trees) were recycled in 2020 by CIS head office. All of the Group's subsidiaries are also made aware of the importance of limiting paper consumption in order to protect the environment and selective sorting of packaging waste is carried out on each of them.
