A continuous safety performance since 2013

Our subsidiary CNA Mauritania is celebrating 10 million hours without LTI! This continuous performance since November 2013 is no coincidence but the result of daily actions and the commitment of our teams to limit the risk of accidents.

First of all, daily toolboxes are carried out by all our employees. Each day the topic is different and linked to a potential risk related to their daily activities. Special toolboxes are carried out when an employee starts a new activity as well as safe watches that consist in observing a worker performing a job and identifying hazards.

Risk analyses before starting a task with a potential risk are performed and formalised in safety procedures. An inspection is carried out by our QHSE team in each department in order to identify and resolve any potential nonconformity at least once a week.

Every Friday, safety meetings are organised by the General Manager of the site. All our managers and supervisors must attend. CNA Mauritania is strictly respecting the cardinal rules and safety procedures that have been put in place by our client such as the wearing of safety belts, equipment training, and safety protection when working at height for maintenance work.

Maintaining a high level of safety

As a reminder, CNA has been supporting the KINROSS Group on the Tasiast project, the country’s largest gold mine which can accommodate up to 3000 people in the heart of the desert, since 2011.

Maintaining this level of safety depends on the training and awareness of employees on a permanent basis, as well as the involvement of all managers and supervisors in the respect of safety procedures and instructions.

16 employees are part of the QHSE team in Mauritania and are responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the safety procedures on a daily basis.
