Contributing to their economic and social development
Our business thrives by creating job opportunities, developing local skills and prioritising purchases within the country where we operate. In addition to these fundamental actions, we also engage in philanthropic initiatives aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals that support healthcare, children’s education, social centres and orphanages.
For Children and Education
Through our sustainability initiatives, we work to improve the living conditions of the poorest populations near our operating sites. We place top priority on access to education and a decent life for children. Our actions support orphanages that provide a safe environment where children without families receive education, food and comfort. In Africa, a continent where we have extensive operations, CIS Group has been supporting care facilities for several years.
– Since 2018, we have been helping the Dieu Bénit orphanage in N’Djamena, Chad, renovating the orphanage and building a health clinic. We also make regular donations of food and school supplies.
– Since 2015, in Burkina Faso, we have been working with the non-profit ASEFV (Association for the Support of Vulnerable Children and Women) to build the Saaba orphanage in Ouagadougou and are currently actively involved in running it.
– We also support the Balama orphanage in Mozambique and the Le Bon Samaritain orphanage in Niamey, Niger, regularly providing meals, school supplies and other necessities.
– Lastly, our subsidiary in Brazil has been donating monthly meals for the children of the Casa do Abraço community centre in Macaé since 2017.
Creating real career opportunities
Community engagement by hiring and training people near our operating sites is a key factor for sustainable success.
CIS Group demonstrates its commitment to contribute to local economic and social development.
It does this by hiring people from the local populations, close to the operating sites, training them and offering real career opportunities.
Developing the local economic fabric
We work closely with local suppliers, choosing short supply chains wherever possible. Moreover, several of our subsidiaries support local farms by forming partnerships with cooperatives. This fosters community engagement and gives them control over product quality.
– In Algeria, 100% of meat (beef, mutton, chicken) and egg products and fresh fruit and vegetables are sourced locally.
– In Brazil, all products consumed are manufactured and purchased in the country.
– In Kazakhstan, beef, fruit and vegetables are produced locally.
– In Africa, the vast majority of meat is sourced locally (mutton and camel in Mauritania, beef and mutton in Chad).
In 2024, CIS Group sourced 95% of its products locally (from suppliers located in the area of operation).
food insecurity
Through our activity, we provide a large population from local communities (employees and residents) with access to decent food throughout their working lives.
Meals for our employees working on site are paid for by the company. Menus are developed by qualified teams, reviewed by our nutritionists and approved by our customers.
For food safety reasons, no food is allowed to leave the sites. That is why our subsidiaries organise regular donations of basic foodstuffs (rice, sugar, flour) to local charities and orphanages. The aims of these actions are to avoid waste and help the poorest populations.
As a guiding thread
Since 2005, CIS Group has been a member of the United Nations Global Compact, a unique initiative to guide companies in their sustainable transformation. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs or Agenda 2030) were adopted in September 2015 by 193 countries at the United Nations following the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Their ambition is to transform our societies by eradicating poverty and ensuring a fair transition to sustainable development by 2030. The SDGs are a framework for our actions on the ground.
In 2024, CIS Group generated no less than 75 initiatives in line with the SDGs. Subsidiary directors in our countries of operation have all been educated about the need to implement actions that have a positive impact on the environment and on local communities. Each subsidiary contributes to local projects of its own choosing based on specific regional needs and considerations.
Helping young people to take their destiny into their own hands
In 2008, in Marseille, France, where our head office is located, we created the CIS Corporate Foundation in 2008. This initiative was spearheaded by Régis Arnoux, President and Founder of CIS Group, who wanted to continue his commitment to young people.
he CIS Foundation supports young people who have a professional career plan but are held back by limited financial resources, until they can “take off professionally”. Since its creation, the CIS Foundation has supported 170 young people. Today they occupy a wide range of positions in the fields of healthcare, banking, consulting firms and even in the video game industry.
The CIS Foundation’s DNA is to support these youths over several years (up to six years for some of them). To date, two employees from the Foundation have joined CIS’s workforce. The CIS Foundation aims to bestow the values of perseverance, merit and solidarity.
