In rural areas, access to education remains a major issue for local development. Literacy goes beyond simply learning to read and write. It is a driver of empowerment, social inclusion, and participation in economic life. In Chad, this reality is particularly significant for women living in rural communities, who often face limited access to educational opportunities.

It is in this context that CIS Chad, a subsidiary of CIS Group in Chad, in partnership with AFECDES (Association of Women Employees of CIS-Chad for Socioeconomic Development), organized the closing ceremony of the 2025–2026 literacy program in Béro, in the Komé region.

A literacy program rooted in local realities

The literacy program carried out in Béro in 2025–2026 was designed to meet needs adapted to local realities. It involved women engaged in a learning journey and was supervised by three teachers. The program enabled 70 women to receive literacy training. The first year included 16 beneficiaries, the second year 25 beneficiaries, and the third year 29 beneficiaries. During the closing ceremony, all learners were present.

Beyond the figures, this program represents a practical and meaningful initiative that helps participants acquire essential life skills. Being able to read, write, and count allows them to better manage daily activities, access information, build self-confidence, and take a more active role in community life.

The closing ceremony and the learners’ achievements

The ceremony held in Béro was an important moment both for the learners and for the project partners. It recognized the commitment of the women who took part in the training, as well as the dedication of the teachers and all those involved in ensuring the smooth implementation of the program. During the event, the participants presented the skills they had acquired throughout their learning process. The ceremony also highlighted the importance of close field support in promoting lasting and practical learning that can make a real difference in daily life.

The ceremony was also an opportunity for recognition. The learners received gifts as a sign of encouragement and appreciation for their efforts. Cloth wraps were distributed, along with soap and solar lamps. Refreshments were also provided during the event. The teachers, for their part, received financial support in recognition of their contribution to the success of the program.

CIS Chad and its sustainable development initiatives

Throughout the year, CIS Chad implements sustainable development initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations near its operating sites. The Group has always paid particular attention to access to education and to ensuring decent living conditions for children. In Chad, these actions notably support orphanages that provide a safe environment where children without families can receive education, appropriate nutrition, and essential care for their well-being. In Africa, one of its main regions of operation, CIS Group has been supporting care structures for several years.

In Chad, other initiatives are also carried out every year. Since 2018, CIS Chad has supported the “Dieu Bénit” orphanage in N’Djamena through the construction of a health clinic, regular food donations, school supplies donations, and renovation works within the orphanage. In the Komé region, tree-planting initiatives are also being carried out.
