World Environment Day 2026: financing impactful environmental action

Published on 05/06/2026

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, CIS Group reaffirms its commitment to environmental initiatives that are meaningful and grounded in the realities of the countries where it operates. Operating in challenging environments, CIS places environmental issues at the heart of its corporate responsibility approach, guided by a simple conviction: to act in a targeted, measurable manner that is tailored to local conditions. This ambition is reflected in the implementation of solutions aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of our activities, promoting the circular economy, preserving biodiversity, and supporting impactful projects both in France and in the countries where we operate.

CIS environmental tax

Since 2024, CIS has implemented an internal tax on business travel managed by headquarters for every ton of CO2 generated by our air and rail travel at headquarters.

The amount collected at the end of the year is then allocated to funding high-impact environmental initiatives that help sequester carbon, improve our environmental footprint, or protect biodiversity.

This mechanism is part of a commitment to responsibility and consistency. It does not replace efforts to reduce emissions at the source, but it supports complementary initiatives with measurable benefits in the regions where we operate. Since 2024, we have thus funded several impactful projects in France and in the countries where we operate, prioritizing local, operational approaches that are monitored over time.

In Guinea: forest restoration with Arboria project

In late 2025, we entered into a partnership with Arboria Project, a company dedicated to restoring Guinea’s forests. Through this initiative, CIS is overseeing the restoration of 5 hectares in the Dianéha region.

This project is based on a structured and phased approach. Through the deployment of two nursery modules, the goal is to produce 50,000 seedlings to help restore 60 hectares within five years. The seedlings will be grown in the nursery until the planned reforestation period in July–August 2026.

Beyond forest restoration, this project also incorporates a local development component through a future agroforestry initiative to enable surrounding communities to benefit from fertile land.

In Mauritania: plastic recycling with plastic Odyssey

Plastic pollution is a major environmental challenge in several of the countries where we operate, where collection, sorting, and recycling systems are still underdeveloped or even nonexistent. In this context, CIS and Plastic Odyssey are launching a feasibility study in Mauritania in June 2026.

This collaboration aims to explore opportunities for plastic waste recovery in the country by bringing together various stakeholders: clients, entrepreneurs, technical partners, and institutions. The goal is to identify realistic solutions tailored to the local context that can foster recovery models that are both environmentally and economically viable.

Thanks to Plastic Odyssey’s technical expertise and international network, this project in Mauritania represents a significant step in CIS’s CSR initiative. It reflects our commitment to helping create new opportunities that balance environmental preservation, local innovation, and socio-economic development.

In France: supporting farmers in their transition with Agoterra

Agriculture accounts for approximately 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, it can play a vital role in the ecological transition, provided that changes in agricultural practices are supported to reduce emissions and enhance carbon sequestration in soils.

With this in mind, CIS France finalized its partnership with Agoterra in 2025 and, starting in 2026, is funding the agroecological transition of two French farms, located in Normandy and Nesle, in the Hauts-de-France region. These farms grow several types of field crops: sugar beet, wheat, rapeseed, corn, barley, potatoes, sunflowers, and mixed crops.

The goal of this three-year support program is to reduce and sequester 277 metric tons of CO2 equivalent, with numerous environmental co-benefits: improved biodiversity, better water management, preservation of air quality, and enhanced soil health. These projects are certified as Low-Carbon and are subject to rigorous monitoring, ensuring the credibility of their impact.

Together, these projects support a concrete transformation of practices that benefits both the climate and local communities.

At CIS headquarters in Marseille: saving energy and promoting biodiversity

At CIS headquarters in Marseille, several concrete measures have been implemented to reduce the site’s environmental footprint while sustainably improving resource management.

By the end of 2025, energy-intensive heating systems were replaced with low-energy equipment, with the goal of reducing future energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions. This modernization is part of an energy-efficiency strategy, which is essential for improving the environmental performance of commercial buildings.

Furthermore, since 2024, CIS France has sponsored ten beehives annually through the A.D.A.P. (Association for the Defense of Bees in Provence), located in Gémenos, about thirty kilometers from Marseille. This partnership helps protect pollinators, which are essential to the balance of ecosystems, while raising awareness among our teams and partners about biodiversity issues. It also promotes local honey production under the company’s brand.

At the Marseille site, cigarette butts—which are particularly polluting—are also collected, decontaminated, and repurposed in partnership with TchaoMégot, a pioneering French company in this field. Its process allows for the eco-friendly decontamination of cigarette butts without using water or toxic solvents, so that the fibers can be recycled into insulation for the construction industry or into textile materials. This initiative concretely illustrates our commitment to promoting the circular economy at our sites.

Finally, in 2026, CIS will develop a green space by planting fruit trees to promote biodiversity, create shaded areas, and improve the on-site environment. Funding for the overhaul of the drip irrigation system will also enable savings of approximately 250 m³ of water per year, thanks to more precise watering that is better tailored to the actual needs of the plants.
